The morning after the election, I felt a familiar weight settle in—a mix of exhaustion, disappointment, and resolve. As a Black woman, I’m no stranger to these emotions. We carry so much on our shoulders, from our families to our communities, to our dreams for a better future. And yet, with every challenge, every outcome that doesn’t meet our expectations, we rise again. But this time, as I sat with my feelings, I realized something important: I needed rest.
Not just sleep, but true rest—a rest with purpose.
As Black women, we are known for our resilience, for showing up and pushing forward no matter what. But our rest is just as essential as our work. It’s the pause that gives us clarity. It’s the breath we take before we rise again. Yet even in rest, our purpose is present. It’s a time to refuel, to reconnect, and to remind ourselves of what we are working toward—not just for ourselves, but for the generations that follow us.
This post-election season has reminded me that while individual efforts are powerful, collective action is unstoppable. Rest doesn’t mean isolation. If anything, it’s a call to come together. To lean on one another. To share resources, ideas, and encouragement. This is the spirit behind Culturally Crafted and the Unity Exchange Hub—creating spaces where we uplift each other, promote our businesses, and build the community we deserve.
Through Culturally Crafted, I hope to remind us of the beauty and brilliance in our culture, to celebrate who we are, and to inspire us to support one another. With the Unity Exchange Hub, the mission is clear: connect Black-owned businesses, create opportunities, and foster collaboration that strengthens our collective economic power.
When we take the time to rest, to gather our strength, we are reminded of why we fight for equity, justice, and prosperity. It’s not about doing it all alone—it’s about finding strength in unity and leaning into the power of community.
So, to my fellow sisters, I encourage you: rest. Let it be intentional. Let it be restorative. But don’t rest in isolation. Rest with a purpose that connects us, a purpose that rebuilds us, and a purpose that carries us forward. Together, we will continue to rise, to create, and to transform.
Let’s make our rest as purposeful as our work. Let’s come together to build what we dream. 💛✊🏾
